I’ve got a little truth bomb for you today, and it might ruffle a few feathers… but in the best way. We need to talk about boudoir, because somewhere along the way, people turned it into something it shouldn’t be—and I’m not going to be apologetic about saying so. I don’t care what the narrow, traditional history of this style of photography looks like; boudoir should be about empowerment, confidence, and genuine self‑love.
I need you to stop limiting yourself to whatever tiny box you’ve been trying to squeeze into. And yes, that absolutely means you! Every time someone finds out I’m a boudoir photographer, they clutch their pearls and blush like I just confessed a dirty little secret. But boudoir isn’t taboo, and it definitely isn’t about having a suitcase full of lingerie. Honestly, less is more. The most powerful portraits come from simplicity, comfort, and authenticity. Not from over-the-top outfits or someone else’s idea of sexy.
Here’s the truth: confidence starts with comfort.
If you’re tugging, adjusting, or feeling self-conscious in what you’re wearing, it will show. Choose pieces that make you feel good in your body. Not the ones that exaggerate the areas you’re still learning to love or leave you worrying about support. If saggy boobs or clingy fabrics are stressing you out, skip them. Your session is about feeling empowered, not restricted.
Let me tell you a quick story.
A beautiful woman booked a boudoir session with me, and from the moment she walked in, I could feel her nerves. We had a wardrobe consult beforehand, but she ended up choosing pieces she thought were “supposed” to be sexy — the kind plastered all over Instagram and Pinterest. When she arrived, she was visibly uncomfortable, constantly adjusting flimsy lingerie that didn’t fit and didn’t support her body. My heart ached because I could see how much it was holding her back.
So, I gently offered her something different, something softer, something that felt more like her; and everything changed. She relaxed. She laughed. She moved with confidence and joy. The session transformed because she stopped trying to fit into someone else’s version of sexy and allowed herself to simply be. No shade but listen to your photographer.
At Lawless Love Photography, boudoir isn’t about being raunchy or badass. It can absolutely be soft, elegant, playful, bold, or anything in between. Whether you’re wrapped in a cozy sweater, draped in a silky robe, or embracing your natural beauty, the magic comes from how you feel...not how naughty you appear. This is your moment, if you let it be.
Your body. Your story. Your energy. Boudoir is about celebrating your beauty, your strength, and your journey. It’s about being seen, held, and honored exactly as you are.
So, take a deep breath and wear what feels right to you.
Love without limit,
Dréa
